Sudbury Youth Soccer takes tremendous pride in congratulating Drew Johnson on signing with the New England Revolution Unified team as a partner player. On May 9th team members and their families were greeted with the full Revolution treatment for Signing Day.

“I am so excited to be a member of the Rev’s Unified team. I especially love playing with the special olympians, helping them, and being on a team where we are all equals. It has been an incredible experience and I know I’m making a difference in their lives, which means a lot to me.”

Drew with Coach Porter

Drew, a junior pictured right with New England Revolution Head Coach Caleb Porter, has played with Sudbury Youth Soccer since he was in Kindergarten!

This Spring he is captaining our Sudbury Academy U19 Squad. He’s been a volunteer buddy for our TOPSoccer Program several seasons running and is a starting defender on the LS Varsity Soccer team.

Drew warming upWhen asked how playing in Sudbury helped him reach the Unified Team, Drew said “I’ve played with Sudbury Soccer since kindergarten and I wouldn’t be the player I am today if it wasn’t for the program. I’ve also volunteered with TOPSoccer since my freshman year in high school and love the program.

Initially I started volunteering with TOPS because my brother has a disability and I wanted to help other kids like him while getting my LS volunteer requirement. I quickly realized how much fun the TOPS program is and how much I got back from helping kids with disabilities learn about the sport and have fun.”

Drew made his debut with the Unified Team at Red Bull New York at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey before the first team played. “It is amazing getting to play on the field in MLS stadiums” Drew observed. Match highlights can be found here.

“I’m really thankful to Coach Ross for telling me about the unified team and encouraging me to try out!”

We’re so proud of Drew and look forward to more match reports!
